Introduction

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform industries, organizations are increasingly relying on Chief Artificial Intelligence Officers (CAIOs) to guide their AI strategies. This trend is evident even in government agencies, with NASA recently appointing its first-ever Chief AI Officer in 2023 (NASA, “NASA Names First Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer”). According to a recent NewVantage Partners survey, nearly three-quarters of Fortune 1000 companies have appointed a Chief Data or Analytics Officer, many of whom oversee AI initiatives (NewVantage Partners, “Big Data and AI Executive Survey 2022"). This article explores how Earned Value Management (EVM) and project management will support CAIOs, with a theoretical focus on the potential integration of the Hierarchical Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture (H-JEPA).

Understanding Earned Value Management

Earned Value Management is a project management technique that combines scope, schedule, and cost metrics to assess project performance. The Project Management Institute (PMI) reports that organizations using EVM meet their project goals significantly more often than those that don’t (Project Management Institute, “Pulse of the…
